Abstract
Drawing on themes of storytelling, materiality, and cultural motifs, I investigate how familial narratives and the transformative nature of materials have shaped my artistic journey. Through a process of assertion and insertion, I incorporate cultural symbols and motifs into my work, reflecting on themes of identity and belonging. Additionally, I examine the complexities of disconnection and connection, exploring how absence and replication manifest in the context of familial and cultural identity. My capstone piece, BOK, serves as a culmination of these explorations, evoking themes of fortune, lineage, and the desire for connection through materiality and symbolism. Through my thesis, I invite viewers to contemplate the nuances of personal and cultural identity and the ways in which art can serve as a lens for understanding and connection.
