Summary
Students will research a video game industry professional, develop questions about their career, interview them, edit the interview into a transcript, and discuss this process during an in-class presentation.
Extended Summary
Students will develop an oral history project focused on an individual currently or formerly involved in the video game industry from anywhere around the world (e.g., a retailer, arcade owner, developer, quality assurance tester, modder, esports player, Twitch broadcaster, composer, actor, journalist). The project involves researching an individual, developing questions about their career, interviewing them, editing the interview into a transcript, and discussing this process during an in-class presentation.
Student Learning Objectives
- Locate and evaluate sources by cross-referencing information.
- Conduct a chronologically structured oral history interview that combines both prepared and extemporaneous questions.
- Compare simulated and actual responses to articulate the value of interviewing human subjects as a method of original research.
- Contribute to the preservation of video game history by interviewing an industry professional about their career.
