Abstract

A hypothetical problem to design a new building to contain all the manutactur1ng plants and delivery service for the William A. Straub Corporation was presented to me by Mr. Walter A. Straub, president of the corporation. From the very outset of the thesis it could be noted that this problem would create quite a great deal of planning. In attacking this problem I decided that I would do a thesis that was as nearly complete as possible, time allowing, but not to the extent that working drawings would be included. Therefore the thesis began to fall into the following categories: research, structural and economic· analyses. design of the building and the presentation. The research stage was the longest. Because of the nature of the problem, there was little information that could be gathered from library research. Interviews and observations tied in with a little reading was the basis upon which research material was gathered. Structural and economic analyses coupled with the design studies are the other main parts in the process of determining a good solution. Through these processes I have been able to arrive at the conclusions reached in this thesis.
