Abstract
The pressure drop across flow batteries is an important parameter for the system’s nominal efficiency, as it determines the required pumping power. Two pressure transducers and a syringe pump were used to measure the pressure drop across varying flow rates between 0.01 mL/min ~ 2.5 mL/min to generate a pressure curve for a flow batter. Water was used as a substitute for an electrolyte solution to minimize experimental costs and aid in experimental feasibility. It was found that the syringe pump produced significant errors at lower flow rates, and the pressure transducers needed time to stabilize due to their high sensitivity. After improving the experimental setup based on preliminary results, a pressure drop of 82.75 ± 8.54 Pa and 107.8 ± 15.9 Pa was measured at flow rates of 0.1 mL/min and 1.0 ml/min, respectively. Due to the high error from the syringe pump at low flow rates, an alternative pump that can maintain a stable flow profile will be more suitable for future studies.
