Abstract
On Friday, in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, the Supreme Court overruled the Chevron doctrine, which had stood for 40 years as the usual framework for structuring judicial review of agency legal issues. The doctrine basically said that when a federal court finds that a statute contains no clear answer to an interpretive question at issue in a given case, it should give the benefit of the doubt to a reasonable interpretation favored by the agency that administers the statute.
