Summary

Social sector organizations are often on the front lines of crisis response. Whether the crisis is a natural disaster or a result of human decisions, agencies must act quickly to minimize negative impact on the community. Doing this effectively requires significant planning and data coordination. A data drill is a planning tool developed by Amen Ra Mashariki. Much like a fire drill prepares an organization for the worst-case scenario, a data drill can prepare leaders to utilize data to make clear, informed decisions in a crisis. This case study highlights a data drill designed to address a funding crisis facing member organizations within the St. Louis City Continuum of Care.

For a tool designed to facilitate the planning and execution of data drills, see CSD’s Data Drill Worksheet.
