Abstract

In this paper the detailed solution of the multiplexing problem of independent but not necessarily homogenous traffic sources is presented. The "curse of dimensionality" of problems of realistic dimensions is comprehensively addressed by a methodology employing state aggregation. A number of detailed examples provide further insight into the multiplexing problems and their exact and approximate solutions.
